What this checker verifies
hreflang tells search engines which language and region versions of a page exist. This tool reads the annotations on your page, validates the language-region codes, and checks the two structural rules most sites get wrong: a self-referencing tag and an x-default fallback.
Then the part most free checkers skip: reciprocity. hreflang only works when alternate pages link back. We fetch up to 10 of your alternate URLs and verify each one carries a return tag to the page you entered — broken return links silently disable the whole annotation set.
Especially relevant for European multi-language sites: a Dutch/English/German setup with one missing return tag can lose its language targeting in all markets at once.
